Privacy & Terms
Last updated: May 8, 2026
On first launch, Counsel generates a random device id and stores it locally on your device. This id is the only identifier we tie to your data. We never ask for your name, your email, or your Apple ID.
Counsel's core function depends on AI processing. By tapping “Convene the Council”, you consent to your situation text being sent to Anthropic for AI processing. If you do not consent, do not submit a situation — the rest of the app (the mentor library, settings, your existing history) works without sending anything new to Anthropic.
Your situation text is processed by Anthropic via their API to generate the council's response. By the API's default policy, your inputs and outputs are not used to train Anthropic's models, and Counsel has not enabled any optional training. Anthropic may retain API logs for safety and abuse review per their API terms. See Anthropic's policies at anthropic.com/legal.
After each consultation, we save the following to our database (hosted on Supabase in the European Union), keyed to your device id: your situation text, the mentors you selected, and the council's full response. We separately log usage metadata (timing, model, cost) for monitoring; this metadata contains no situation text. Outcome marks are stored only on your device.
Your default council, drafts, consultation results, and outcome marks are stored locally on your device using iOS's encrypted file storage. The app works fully offline once a consultation is fetched. Deleting the app clears all local data.
Our database is hosted in the European Union. If you are located outside the EU, your data is transferred to and processed in the EU. Cross-border transfers rely on standard contractual clauses where required.
Counsel's Privacy Manifest declares its uses of Apple's Required Reason APIs per Apple's iOS 17+ requirements. The manifest ships with the app bundle.
Server-side data is retained until you request deletion. Local data is kept until you delete the app. Anthropic retains API logs per their published API terms. Usage metadata for cost monitoring has no automatic deletion schedule.
Network requests use TLS in transit. The database is encrypted at rest. On-device data uses iOS's encrypted file storage.
Counsel is intended for adult users (18+) and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Counsel does not track you across other companies' apps and websites. Counsel does not use Apple's advertising identifier (IDFA), and does not include any advertising, social-media, or cross-app analytics SDKs. Counsel does not access your location, contacts, photos, or microphone. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, ever.
Counsel uses RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat receives an anonymous user id (RevenueCat's own pseudonymous identifier, separate from the Counsel device id), the products you've purchased, and Apple's transaction receipts to verify your subscription status. See RevenueCat's privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy. PostHog (product analytics) and Sentry (crash reporting) SDKs are present in the codebase but inactive in v1.0 — they only initialize when their respective API keys are configured at build time, which they are not in this release. If activated in a future version, both will be opt-in and controllable from Settings, and this policy will be updated.
You can delete all your data at any time from Settings → Delete my data. This removes your server-side data immediately and clears all local data on your device. If you reside in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with comparable data-protection law, you also have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict the processing of, and port your data, and to object to processing or lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, or for any other privacy request, email maisuradzebeka0@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days.
We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be flagged in-app on next launch. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
Hosted at getcounsel.space/privacy. The in-app version is authoritative if the two diverge.

By downloading, installing, or using Counsel, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Counsel is a reflection tool. It generates structured perspectives from characterizations of historical figures using a large language model (Claude Sonnet 4.5 from Anthropic). The mentors are not the historical figures themselves; they are AI-generated voices framed by our prompt design.
Nothing Counsel produces is legal, medical, financial, or therapeutic advice. The app is for personal reflection. If your situation involves legal exposure, medical decisions, money you cannot afford to lose, or a mental-health crisis, talk to a qualified professional. Counsel is not a substitute for any of them.
If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services. If you are in a mental-health crisis, contact a crisis hotline. Counsel is asynchronous reflection — it should not be used in moments where you need help in the next minute.
Outputs are AI-generated and may contain errors, misattributions, or factual inaccuracies. Quotes are sourced from public-domain works and we cite them, but we cannot guarantee that every attribution survives every translation or edition. Counsel is for reflection only. Do not rely on outputs for decisions requiring professional judgment.
You retain ownership of the situations you submit. You may share consultation results in any form, including screenshots, for any purpose. The mentor characterizations, prompt design, structured output schema, and synthesis remain Counsel's intellectual property.
Counsel uses an auto-renewing subscription managed by Apple. Pricing, trial length, and renewal terms are shown on the paywall before checkout. You can cancel at any time in your Apple subscription settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Apple's standard refund policy applies — Counsel does not issue refunds directly.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access for users who violate these Terms or abuse the service. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you before doing so unless legally prevented.
You agree to hold Counsel harmless from any claims arising out of your use of the app, including any decisions you make based on consultation outputs.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Georgia. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Tbilisi, Georgia. Nothing in these Terms limits any non-waivable rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence.
We may update these Terms. Material changes are flagged in-app on next launch. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
For help, bug reports, account-data requests (access, deletion, portability), or any other question, email maisuradzebeka0@gmail.com. We reply within a few days.
